Depositors & Container Filling Machines

A depositor places a measured portion of product into a container or onto another product. The portion is metered by a piston, a pump or a vacuum filler, and a filling head, valve or nozzle opens to release it and closes cleanly so product does not drip onto the rim or the sealing surface of the pack.

Overview

About depositors

Can and jar fillers portion liquids, pastes and chunky products such as sauces, salads, soups, corned beef and wet pet food into cans, jars, glasses and cups. Filling tables move trays or tins under the outlet so several containers are filled in one sequence, and multi-lane heads fill several tray compartments at once ahead of a sealing machine. Rotary heads deposit dough and batter into baking tins and moulds, and shredding depositors spread a topping such as cheese evenly across a product.

Food manufacturers use depositors to fill containers to a consistent weight, keep sealing areas clean for the packaging step and cut down on manual filling. They are common in canning, ready meals, deli salads, dairy, bakery fillings and creams, and pet food.
