Inspection & Weight Control Systems

Inspection and weight control equipment checks products on the line so that contaminated or out-of-weight items are found before they leave the plant. It does not change the product: it measures it, records the result, and can reject a failed item or send a correction to the machine upstream.

Overview

About inspection & weight control

Metal detectors pass product through a coil system that generates an electromagnetic field; a metal particle disturbs the field and triggers a reject. Pipeline detectors check pumped product, for example at the outlet of a vacuum filler on its way to the filling horn or attachment, and tunnel detectors surround a conveyor belt for loose or packed products. X-ray systems measure how strongly each part of the product absorbs X-rays, which lets them find dense contaminants such as bone fragments, stone and glass as well as metal, and check packs for missing or misplaced pieces.

Checkweighers weigh every portion or pack as it passes, reject items outside the set tolerance, and can report the weight trend to the filler so it corrects the portion size. Scales are used for spot checks at the filling table, and in-line weighing before and after injection shows how much brine the meat has taken up. Producers use this equipment to support food safety programs, customer specifications and trade measurement rules for packaged goods.
